separate Normal Class, and that no other method suggested itself to him of continuing the Normal School elsewhere at a less cost to Government. The Governor minuted this reply to the effect that the cost was excessive and should be kept down as much as possible, and that he supposed that the Normal School would be allowed to die out. Under these circumstances I venture to submit that I am justified in assuming that if Sir George Bowen had been in the Colony he would have profited by the opportunity, which has presented itself in his absence and approved of Mr. Wright's recommendation.
The cost of the Normal School in 1882 was $3367.12 or at the rate of $450.49 for each student. For the present year the cost is estimated at $8496, and the cost per head for the six remaining students would be no less than $583 per head. The nett annual cost per head of pupils at the Central School is stated at $9.84.
